a. What is it? b. Therapies c. Education and Regulation d. Naturopathic Oath ![]() a. What is It? ![]() Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of healthcare that combines healing traditions from many different cultures with the latest research in natural medicine. It is focused on prevention by assessing a persons lifestyle, diet, environment and other factors that affect health. Its uniqueness is that it looks for the cause of illness rather than simply treating symptoms. The natural treatments prescribed by your naturopathic doctor (ND) will be specific to you and will act to facilitate your bodys innate ability to heal itself. As well as being effective for treating disease, naturopathic medicine can be used to increase wellness in healthy people. Sometimes people that feel they are healthy are actually functioning at a sub-optimal level. Can you recall a time when you had more energy, mental clarity, or vitality? A naturopathic doctor will help you make the necessary changes to achieve optimal wellness. b. Therapies
NDs are the only primary care doctors that specialize in a wide variety
of natural therapeutics. The treatments are based on scientific research
or historical evidence for the effective treatment of disease, preventative
medicine, and achieving optimal health. The therapies may include:
Intravenous Therapy Note: Dr. Korah, ND is one of a few naturopathic doctors in Eastern Ontario with advanced training and certification to perform intravenous therapy. Clinical Nutrition Botanical Medicine Homeopathic Medicine Acupuncture and Asian Medicine Lifestyle Counselling Physical Medicine Professional Line Products These are professional product lines. NOTE: you always have the option of obtaining products from the clinic or a store of your choice. If you find the same product at a lower cost elsewhere, please inform the clinic. c. Education and Regulation
Licensed NDs have at least three years of university education before
entering the four-year intensive full-time program for naturopathic medicine.
The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto is currently
the only accredited naturopathic medical training program in Canada.
The course includes training in basic medical sciences, naturopathic therapies and 1500 hours of clinical internship. In Ontario, NDs are regulated by the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy Naturopathy. This is a government appointed regulatory and licensing board that is responsible for professional conduct and public safety. In addition, NDs must pass North American-wide standardized licensing examinations. d. Naturopathic Oath
